What is photosynthesis?
An endothermic reaction in which energy is transferred from the environment to the chloroplasts by light.
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + Water โ glucose + oxygen
What is the symbol equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + GH2O โ C6H12O6+ 6O2
What are 6 adaptations that leaves have for photosynthesis?
broad to give large surface area
thin leaves for shorter diffusion distances
contains chlorophyll to absorb light
have veins which bring water into xylem
air spaces which allow CO2 to get to cells
guard cells to regulate gas exchange
What are limiting factors?
Factor which reduce the rate at which photosynthesis occurs. These include light, carbon dioxide intake and temprature.
How does light affect photosynthesis?
The more light the quicker the rate of photosynthesis
What effect does carbon dioxide increase have on photosynthesis?
It increases photosynthesis, however it stabilises at a certain point.
How does temperature affect photosynthesis?
Increases until 40 degrees, at which point the enzyme begins to denature.
What relationship does chlorophyll have to photosynthesis?
If chlorophyll is limited in anyway, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease.
What is the relationship between distance from light and light intensity?
Light intensity is proportional to 1
. distance2
