Evaporation
The change of state from a liquid to a gas.
Viscosity
The resistance of a fluid to flow.
Pascal's Principle
A contained fluid exerts pressure equally in all directions.
Boyle's Law
As the pressure of a gas at constant temperature decreases, its volume increases.
Kinetic Theory
States that the higher the temperature, the faster the particles that make up a substance move.
Buoyant Force
The upward force exerted on an object immersed in or floating on a fluid.
Sublimation
The change of a substance from a solid directly to a gas.
Condensation
The process of a gas becoming a liquid.
Freezing Point
The temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to a solid.
Pressure
Calculated by dividing force by the area over which the force is exerted.
Density
Mass per unit volume of an object, determining if it sinks or floats.
Liquid
A state of matter with a definite volume, but no definite shape.
Gas
A state of matter that expands to fill its container.
Fluid
A substance that flows, includes liquids and gases.
Archimedes' Principle
States that the buoyant force on an object is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.
Kinetic Energy
The energy an object possesses due to its motion.
Bernoulli's Principle
Describes the relationship between the velocity and pressure of a fluid.
Hydraulics
The use of liquid under pressure to transmit force.
Energy Transfer
Required for any change of state to occur.
Solid
A state of matter with a definite shape and a definite volume.
