What triggers hunger?
Lateral Hypothalamus
brings on hunger, destroy it, and the animals will starve
Ventromedical Hypothalamus(VMH)
depress hunger(stimulation), destory it and animals eats excessively.
Set Point Theory
predisposes us to keep our bodies at a steady weights is lost(go below set point) food intake increases and energy expenditure decreases. If weight is gained- food intake decreases, the body not only and adjusts food intake and energy output, it also adjusts its basal metabolic rate

What are other items that can influence hunger?
Eating by the “clock”, social eating, stress/depression eating patterns, other eating cues like holidays or when watching TV or movie
Anorexia nervosa
Normal-weigh person, losing weight continously and yet still feel overweight.
Bulimia nervosa
episodes of overeating, usually high-calorie foods, followed by vomiting, fasting, or excessive excercise.
Binge eating disorder
recurrent overeating with out any type of “purging” that is in Bulimia

Low achievement motivation
tend to motivated primarily by a desire to avoid failure so they will either do very easy tasks or extremely difficult tasks that no one could suceed at.
When is achievement motivation learned?
Tends to be learned in early childhood, especially from parents, more general cultural influences also affect level of achievement motivation
