Cumulative Incidence
The total number of new cases of a disease in a specified population at risk during a specified time period, expressed as a proportion or percent.
Incidence Rate
A measure of the occurrence of new disease, calculated as the number of new cases divided by the total person-time at risk during the specified time period.
Prevalence
The proportion of individuals in a population who have a particular disease at a given time, without consideration of whether they are at risk.
Attack Rate
The proportion of exposed individuals who develop the disease; a measure of risk among the exposed.
Secondary Attack Rate
The attack rate in susceptible people who are exposed to a primary case of disease.
Proportion
A type of ratio in which the numerator is included in the denominator, often expressed as a fraction, percentage, or decimal.
Probability
A quantitative assessment of the likelihood of an event occurring, measured as a value between 0 (never occurs) and 1 (always occurs).
Case Definition
A set of criteria used to determine whether an individual has a particular disease, which may include symptoms and laboratory findings.
Surveillance
Systematic data collection, analysis, and interpretation of health data for planning, implementing, and evaluating public health practices.
Epidemic Curve
A graphical representation that shows the onset of cases over time, which helps to understand the dynamics of an outbreak.
