Diels-Alder Reaction
A cycloaddition reaction between a conjugated diene and a dienophile to form a six-membered ring.
Dienophile
A reagent that reacts with a diene in a Diels-Alder reaction, often containing electron-withdrawing groups.
Substituent
An atom or group of atoms that replaces hydrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon.
Cis and Trans Isomers
Cis isomers have substituents on the same side of a double bond, while trans isomers have substituents on opposite sides.
Syn Addition
A reaction where two substituents are added to the same side of a double bond or a cyclic structure.
Epoxide
A three-membered cyclic ether formed from alkenes during oxidation.
Nucleophile
A species that donates an electron pair to form a chemical bond in relation to a reaction.
Alcohol
An organic compound characterized by the presence of one or more hydroxyl (-OH) groups.
Aldehyde
An organic compound containing a carbonyl group (C=O) with at least one hydrogen atom attached.
Ketone
An organic compound characterized by a carbonyl group (C=O) bonded to two carbon atoms.
