what does a line voltage compensator do?
monitors and adjusts the voltage going into the x-ray circuit, keeps supplied power constant and consistent
what does a autotransformer do?
kVp selector, variable transformer (self induction), allows us to vary the voltage and amount of turns on the secondary side
what is the purpose of an exposure switch?
begins the exposure
what does the kVp meter do?
voltage is measured (coming out of autotransformer)
what does the step-up transformer do?
increases voltage, decreases current; takes the voltage coming from the autotransformer and steps it up to the kV range
what does the mA meter do?
measures the number of electrons from cathode to anode
what is the purpose of rectifiers?
change the flow of current from AC to DC
what does the x-ray tube do?
creates the exposure
what does the rheostat do?
vary our mA (variable resistor)
what does the step-down transformer do?
decreases voltage, increases current
what does the major kVp selector do?
allows us to change the kVp in big increments (70 to 80 to 90)
what does the minor kVp selector do?
fine tuning, change kVp 1-2, smaller increments in your kVp (change kVp from 71 to 72)
what does the main circuit breaker do?
safety, if there is a short circuit it breaks the circuit so that the power cannot get to the rest of the circuit
what is the main power switch/supply?
what we are getting out of the wall outlet
