Body of Christ
A name for the Holy Eucharist and a title for the church with Christ as her head.
Charity (love)
One of the three Theological Virtues by which we give our love to God and our neighbor.
Clergy
Those who receive the sacrament of Holy Orders to serve the whole communion of the church.
ex: priests, nuns, bishops, deacons, etc
Consecrated life
A permanent state of life recognized by the church, characterized by the profession of evangelical counsels.
ex: lived by those who follow Jesus Christ

A word meaning removal from one's own country.

Hope
One of the three Theological virtues through which a person desires and expects the fulfillment of God's promises.
Human person
The human individual made in the image of God, capable of knowledge, self-possession, and freedom.
Intellect
Our God-given power and ability to know what is good and true, enabling us to know God through creation.
Liturgy
Refers to the public worship of the Church, including the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.
Liturgy of the Hours
The public daily prayer of the church extending the praise given to God in the Eucharistic celebration.
Liturgy of the Word
The first main part of the Mass during which the scriptures are proclaimed and their meaning explained.
Mass
The Eucharist or principal sacramental celebration of the church, in which the mystery of salvation is renewed and accomplished.
Messiah
A Hebrew word meaning the Anointed One, the one whom God would send to inaugurate his Kingdom definitively.
Moral passions
The emotions or dispositions which incline us to do good or evil actions.
Prayer
The raising of one's mind and heart to God in thanksgiving, praise, and requesting of good things from God.
Sacrament
The seven efficacious signs of grace instituted by Christ and entrusted to the church.
Sermon on the Mount
The summary of Jesus' teaching on discipleship found in Matthew 5:1 - 7:29.
Theological Virtues
Gifts infused by God into the souls of the faithful to make them capable of acting as his children and meriting eternal life.
Theology
Faith seeking understanding, the study of God using reason assisted by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
Twelve (the)
The Apostles chosen by Jesus before his Death, Resurrection, and Ascension, with St. Peter appointed as their leader.
Works of Mercy
Charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbors in their bodily and spiritual needs.
Worship
Adoration and honor given to God, the first act of the virtue of religion, celebrated in the Church by the paschal Mystery of Christ in the Liturgy.
