Shahada

The declaration of belief in the oneness of Allah and Muhammad as His final messenger.

Salah

The practice of praying five times a day in Islam, consisting of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha.

Zakat

Charity given to those in need, typically 2.5% of a Muslim's wealth annually.

Sawm

Fasting during Ramadan from dawn to sunset.

Hajj

Predestination (Qadar)

The belief that Allah knows everything that happens, but humans still have free will.

Sharia

Sunni Islam

The largest branch of Islam, following the Sunnah and believing that the community should choose the leader.

Shia Islam

The second largest branch of Islam, believing leadership should remain within Muhammad's family, specifically with Ali.

A holiday celebrated at the end of Ramadan, marking the end of fasting.

Eid al-Adha

A holiday commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.
