Baptism
Immerse in water. Used to wash away sin and welcome a person into christianity.
Bible
Christian sacred text believed to be revealed and inspired by God. It’s made up of the old and new testaments.
Confirmation
A service for someone who was baptised as a baby when they accept christianity for themselves. They’re recognised as a member of the church after.
Eucharist
Means thanksgiving is a re-enactment to the last supper. It is when bread and wine is shared to symbolise the body and blood of Jesus.
Free will
The ability to make choices voluntarily and independently. E.g. The choice to believe in God or not.
Heaven/Hell
Heaven is a paradise where one is united with God. Hell is eternal suffering where one is seperated from God.
Judgement
The belief that God will judge whether or not humans are worthy to enter the kingdom of Heaven. Protestants believe this will happen on the day of judgment.
Marriage symbols
Features of the wedding ceremony that show the purpose of marriage. E.g. The ring symbolises eternal love.
Pilgrimage
A journey made to a sacred place for religious purposes. Christians may visit Jerusalem to walk in Jesus’ footsteps.
Reason
The process of logical thought. E.g. Ability to problem solve.
Revelation
God making himself known to humankind. E.g. Through the bible
Vows
Promises made between people or a persons promises to God. E.g. Wedding vows as a promise of commitment.
