Black Power Movement
A new direction within the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s that grew due to disillusionment with the moderate, non-violent approach.
Goals of the Black Power Movement
To fight against racial discrimination and injustices, instill pride in African American heritage and customs, promote political solidarity, and strive for self-worth and economic power.
Malcolm X
A prominent activist in the Black Power Movement, known for being a brilliant speaker and dedicated civil rights member. He was initially part of the Nation of Islam but later changed his stance on integration.
Nation of Islam
An organization that Malcolm X was a member of, which initially focused on empowering African Americans but from which he was later expelled.
