It wasn’t a railroad or underground it was A secret network known as the underground railroad it was rather a series of safe houses strung out along route that extended from the slave border states all the way to Canada,which was owned by people who disagreed with slavery and hated the fugitive slave act/law, so they helped the slaves and dressed the slaves to make them look like a free slave from the North.
