Liver Biopsy
Procedure to remove and examine a small piece of liver tissue to confirm diagnosis, assess severity/progression, and treatment response.
Liver Lobules
Small units of the liver mass divided by connective tissue.
Percutaneous Liver Biopsy
Liver biopsy performed by inserting a needle through the skin into the liver to extract a tissue sample.
Transvenous Liver Biopsy
Liver biopsy performed by inserting a needle into a vein (typically in the neck) and extracting a tissue sample from the liver.
Laparoscopic Liver Biopsy
Liver biopsy performed by making a small incision in the abdomen to extract tissue samples from the liver using a laparoscope.
INR Contraindication
Liver biopsy is generally not attempted if the INR is >1.5.
Platelet Count Contraindication
Liver biopsy is generally not attempted if the platelet count is <60,000.

Cutting Needle
