Hidden curriculum

When the school unintentionally teaches students through the contents of the curriculum, routines, and expected behavioural norms.

Eurocentric ideologies

Principles that suggest the superiority of European world views. These principles are usually transmitted in social institutions like schools.

Socioeconomic diversity

Describes differences that are based on social and economic variables, such as SES, social class, income level, and ethnic background

Oppositional subcultures

Counter cultures and attitudes that people develop in response to perceived oppression by a dominant group or culture

Diversity pedagogy

A multi-dimensional framework designed to facilitate the process of self-analysis and awareness of diversity issues in teachers.

Critical pedagogy

A school of thought that advocates the examination of the ways power mediates academic success and how challenge and interrogation can interrupt the control dominant society has over knowledge education.

• refers to unspoken, unwritten,unofficial, and un intended  lessons and values students learn in school, shaping their behaviors and attitudes. In Canadian classrooms, examples include reinforcing gender roles through activities and unintentionally reflecting cultural biases in teaching materials and methods. Emphasis on punctuality and time management.
