IP Address
A unique identifier for a device on a network, used for communication.
Subnet Mask
A parameter that determines which subnet an IP address belongs to.
Default Gateway
The IP address of the router used to communicate with devices outside the local subnet.
Static IP Address
An IP address that does not change and is manually configured on a device.
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, used to automatically assign IP addresses to devices.
DHCP Reservation
A setting on a DHCP server that links a specific IP address to a device's MAC address.
APIPA
Automatic Private IP Addressing, a fallback method that assigns a link-local address when DHCP fails.
ARP Request
A network request used to determine if an IP address is already in use by another device.
Link-local Address
An IP address that enables communication within the local subnet, typically assigned by APIPA.
DNS Server
A server that translates domain names into IP addresses, enabling web browsing and other network operations.
