Syllogism
Combining two statements/premises to make a conclusion.
Ex: an apple is a fruit. + All fruit is good. = An apple is good.
Metonymy
something is referred to by another closely-related thing.
Ex: “The White House issued a statement.”
The White House is likely referring to the President.
They are both closely related.
Juxtaposition
placing 2 non-similar things near each other to compare or contrast them & emphasize their differences
Paradox
a statement that seems false or self-contradicting but, when looked at, is shown to be true
Oxymoron
figure of speech that combines (puts right next to each other) seemingly opposite or contradicting things in a phrase
