Observation
Something fact-based you experience through your 5 senses.
Inference
What you think/ decide about something you have observed.
Accuracy
How close you are to the real/true value.
Precision
When following a procedure, you get the same result over and over again.
Lab Safety
Actions and tools that keep us safe.
Metric System
Universal measuring system.
Metric Conversion / Dimensional Analysis
Converting units.
What methods do we use to observe matter?
With our senses: touch, smell, sight, and hearing.
What are important safety items in the lab?
Chemical shower, eye wash, broken glass bin, safety goggles, tongs, gloves, etc.
What is accuracy?
How close you are to the real/true value.
What is precision?
When following a procedure, you get the same result over and over again.
How do precision and accuracy differ?
Accuracy is how close you are to the actual value; precision is how close the values are to each other.
Why do we use the metric system in science?
Because it is the universal system.
What do we do when our metric measurements are not in the correct metric units?
We use dimensional analysis and the conversion factor.
What is a conversion factor?
A ratio used to convert a quantity from one unit to another while maintaining the same value.
What units do we use to measure length?
mm, cm, m, km.
What units do we use to measure mass?
mg, g, kg.
What units do we use to measure volume?
mL, L.
What unit is used to measure temperature?
Celsius (℃).
What units do we use to measure time?
Seconds (sec), minutes (min), hours (hr), days, weeks, years.
