Science Test Unit 1
Vocabulary
Observation- something fact-based you experience through your 4 senses
Inference- what you think/ decide about something you have observed
Accuracy-How close you are to the real/true value
Precision- When following a procedure, you get the same result over and over agian.
Lab Safety- actions and tools that keep us safe
Metric System- universal measuring system
Metric Conversion / Dimensional Analysis- converting unitd
Key Questions to Review
How can we observe matter?- with our senses, touch, smell, sight
How do we describe matter?- changes, texture, observations and inferences, writing down, data tables, answering questions
What do we use to observe matter?- scoopula
What are important safety items in the lab?- chemical shower, eye wash, broken glass bin, saftey googles, tongs, gloves, ect.
Do I know the various items used in the science lab if I saw a picture of one?- review slidesho
What are key points for using a Bunsen burner safely?
What is accuracy?- How close you are to the real/true value
What is prescison?-When following a procedure, you get the same result over and over agian.
How do precision and accuracy differ?- accuracy is how close you are to the actual value and presion is how close the values are to eachother, not the target
Why do we use the metric system in science?- because it is the universal system
What do we do when our metric measurements are not in the correct metric units?- we use dimensional analysis and the conversion factor
What is a conversion factor and what is it used for? - to find the # in a diffrent unit, but the same value
Measurement Techniques
Key Techniques to review:
Can I find the correct measurement tools for different items we measure
Do I know Proper techniques
Do I remember to always include The Estimated digit/value
Do I know how to convert between units using given conversion factor?
If I saw a picture on paper, can I measure it accurately and precisely?
Metric System Units and Symbols - do I know what unit(s) we use to measure:
Length- mm, cm, m, km
Mass- mg, g, km
Volume- mL, L
Temperature- celsius, ℃
Time- sec, min, hr, day, week, year
