Ammine
A compound containing a nitrogen atom bonded to one or more alkyl or aryl groups.
Aromatic amine
An amine in which the nitrogen is bonded to an aromatic ring, such as benzene.
Aniline
An aromatic amine, specifically, a primary amine with the formula C6H5NH2.
Preparation from Nitrobenzene
Nitrobenzene is reduced to a 1° Amine using 6[H] with a catalyst like Sn in H2O or Cu at 270°C and 20 atm.
Hoffman Degradation reaction
A reaction where an amide reacts with Br2 and KOH to produce a 1° Amine along with byproducts such as KBr and K2CO3.
Reaction of 1° Amine with CH3I
A 1° Amine reacts with CH3I to produce a 2° Amine and HI.
Reaction of 2° Amine with CH3I
A 2° Amine reacts with CH3I to produce a 3° Amine and HI.
HNO2
Nitrous Acid, which is unstable, reacts with itself, undergoes both oxidation and reduction, and cannot be stored alone.
Preparation of HNO2
HNO2 is made by mixing NaNO3 and HCl.
Disproportionation reaction of HNO2
A reaction in which one species is simultaneously oxidized and reduced.
