The Internet

a worldwide system of computer networks

Network(s)

a series of interconnected nodes that can transmit, receive, and exchange data, voice, and video traffic

Domain Name System (DNS)

naming database in which internet done in which internet domain names are located in translated into Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses

IP Address(es)

a series of numbers that identifies any device on a network

IPv6

latest version of the Internet Protocol which allows computers to uniquely identify and locate other computers and devices on the internet

HTTP (HyperText Transfer Portal)

set of rules for transferring files -- such as text, images, sound, video, and other multimedia files over the web

Redundancy

a system design in which a component is duplicated so if it fails there will be a backup

Routing

the process of path selection in any network

Scalability

the measure of a system's ability to increase or decrease in performance and cost in response to changes in application and system processing demands

Redundancy of Routing

the availability of multiple paths increases the redundancy of a network

Protocols

an established set of rules that determines how data is transmitted between different devices in the same network

Interfaces

a program that allows a user to interact computers in person or over a network

Bandwith

maximum transmission capacity if a device

Antivirus Software

a class of program designed to prevent, detect, and remove malware infections on individual computing devices, networks, and IT systems

World Wide Web

computer network consisting of a collection of internet sites that offer text and graphics and sound and animation resources through the hypertext transfer protocol
