Sodium Azide
A chemical compound (NaN3) used in airbag inflation; decomposes to produce nitrogen gas and sodium.
Photosynthesis Overall Equation
The process by which green plants use sunlight to synthesize foods with carbon dioxide and water.
Titanium Tetrachloride (TiCl4)
A chemical compound produced from the reaction of titanium dioxide with carbon and chlorine.
Theoretical Yield
The maximum amount of product that can be formed from a given amount of reactants.
Percent Yield
The ratio of actual yield to theoretical yield expressed as a percentage.
Xenon Tetrafluoride
A chemical compound (XeF4) that reacts with water to produce xenon and hydrofluoric acid (HF).
Stoichiometry
The calculation of reactants and products in chemical reactions.
Limiting Reactant
The reactant that is completely consumed in a chemical reaction, limiting the amount of product formed.
Percent Excess
The measure of how much more of a reactant is present than is necessary to completely react with the limiting reactant.
Propane (C3H8)
A hydrocarbon fuel that produces carbon dioxide and water when burned.
Calcium Phosphate
A phosphate compound produced in the reaction of tetraphosphorus decoxide and calcium hydroxide.
Mustard Gas
A chemical warfare agent that is produced from the reaction of thiodiglycol and phosphorus trichloride.
