Sensorimotor stage
PRESENT-oriented only
-only think about what they SENSE or are DOING right now
TEACHING:

-how: just say it, no play
Age 3-6
Pre-operational = Pre-schoolers
Fantasy-oriented, imaginary, illogical, no rules
TEACHING:
-when: the hour before or the morning of
-what: what you are GOING to do
-How: use play, stories, books, dolls
Age 7-11
Concrete Operational
(7-11 grocery store surrounded by CONCRETE)
-Rule-oriented
-Live and die by the rules!
-Cannot think abstractly
-They only have one solution, everything else is wrong
-7 is the first age they can administer insulin (do skills)
TEACHING:
-when: days before
-what: what you are GOING to do and skills they need to learn
-how: age appropriate reading and visual/audio
Age 12-15
Formal Operations
-think abstractly
-understand cause and effect
-treat child the same as an adult cognitively
