Independent clause (IC)
A clause that can stand alone as a complete sentence; contains a subject and a predicate.
Dependent clause (DC)
A clause that cannot stand alone; begins with a subordinating conjunction or relative pronoun and depends on an independent clause to complete its meaning.
Descriptive phrase (DP)
A phrase that adds description but lacks a subject-predicate structure and cannot stand alone as a sentence.
