Equal protection
fair protection for everyone no matter race, religion, etc.
Naturalization
the legal process by which a foreign citizen becomes a citizen of the USA
Reserved powers
powers that are reserved by the states. public school, regulate alcoholic beverages , conduct elections, establish local governments, regulate trade in their state, licenses for 16 yr olds
Enumerated powers
powers that are clearly listed in the constitution and only given by the federal government. Coin money, conduct foreign trade, declare war, maintain armed forces, regulate inner state and foreign relations.
Limited Government
A government that only has as much power as necessary to carry out their jobs.
Due process
the rules the government must follow before it can take away the rights of a citizen.
Concurrent powers
powers that are shared from the state and federal government. Levy and collect taxes, borrow money, establish courts, define crimes and set punishments, claim private property for public use.
Popular sovereignty
a government is subject to the will of the people.
Judicial Review
the power of a court to judge if an action is or isn’t constitutional.

a power that is suggested but not “spelled” out.
