Seals
Devices used to prevent or limit leakage of fluids or particulates.
Static Seals
Sealing takes place between two surfaces that do not move relative to each other.
Dynamic Seals
Sealing takes place between two surfaces that move relative to each other.
O-rings
A simple and versatile type of seal made of elastomeric material used in both static and dynamic sealing.
Gaskets
A material clamped between two components to prevent fluid flow.
Leakage
The passage of fluid molecules through any clearance between two components.
Face Seals
A type of dynamic seal used for rotating components to retain fluids and exclude contaminants.
Labyrinth Seals
A type of interstitial seal that creates a restriction via a labyrinth-like path to limit fluid leakage.
Piston Rings
Seals used in cylinders to control the combustion chamber pressure and oil flow in combustion engines.
Seals Selection Factors
Considerations such as fluid nature, pressure levels, relative motion, sealing level, operating temperature, life expectancy, and total cost when selecting seals.
