What is the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA)?
The Athletic Training National Organization officially established in 1950
Athletic Training Settings Include:
clinics, hospitals, industrial, occuaptional, highschool, college, professional, rodeo, nascar, performing arts, entertainment industry, medical sale equipment and sales, military, law enforcement, NASA, and government agencies
International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS)
created in 1928 a the olympic winter games in st mortiz, switzerland by olympic medical doctors with the principal purpose of promoting the study and development of sports medicine
National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations (NFHS)
led the development of education-based interscholastic sports to help students succeed in their lives since 1920. goals are to build awareness and support, improve the participation experience, establish consistent standards and rules for competition
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
founded in 1947 to promote and maintain high-quality standards for family doctors who are providing continuing comprehensive health care to the public.
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
interested in the study of all aspects of sports, established in 1954, holds national and regional conferences and meetings devoted to exploring the many aspects of sports medicine
American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM)
was created in 1972 to encourage and support specific research in orthopedic sports medicine, works to develop methods for safer, more productive, and more enjoyable fitness programs.
National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)
was formed in 1978 to facilitate a professional exchange of ideas in strength development as it relates to the improvement of athletic performance and fitness and to enhance, enlighten, and advance the field of strength and conditioning
American Academy of Pediatrics, Sports Committee
was organized 1979, its primary goal is to educate all physicians, especially pediatricians, about the special needs of children who participate in sports
American Physical Therapy Association, Sports Physical Therapy Section
in 1981, the APTA was established, to provide a forum to establish collegial relations between physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and physical therapy students interested in sports physical therapy
NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports
collects and develops pertinent information about desirable training methods, prevention and treatment of sports injuries, utilization of sound safety measures at the college level, drug education and drug testing
National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
Founded in 1987, it provides education and credentials for fitness, sports performance, and sports medicine professionals.
Board of Certification (BOC)
has established specific requirements that must be met for an individual to become certified as an Athletic Trainer. Include a combination of both academic coursework and clinical experience in athletic training settings.
Commission for Accreditation of Athletic Training (CAATE)
establishes strict standards for institutions that offer educational entry-level professional programs a t the Bachelor and masters degree levels until 2022 after which the entry-level degree will only be a masters.
