What is a neuron

A Neuron is a nerve cell  that carries information around the body via an action potential (or nerve impulse).

What are the three different neuron types

-Sensory (afferent) neurons: Receive and carry sensory information from the external and internal environments and transmit it to the CNS.
-Motor (Efferent) neurons: Carry messages from the CNS to the cells in the skeletal muscles, organs and glands to stimulate activity.

-Interneurons: Acts as a link between sensory and motor neurons, relaying information from one to the other (because sensory and motor neurons rarely ever connect directly).

Multiple Sclerosis
Explain why MS leads to the slowing down of signals being sent within in the nervous system.

-Myelin sheath allows signals to travel down quickly and efficiently, if it is damaged the neurons may slow down causing it to not be able to communicate with other neurons.
