Wars Power Act (1941)

Law that gave FDR unprecedented control over all aspects of war efforts during WW2

Neutrality Act of 1935

Legislation that sought to avoid entanglement in foreign wars while protecting trade. Imposed an embargo on selling arms to warring countries and declared that American travelling on the ships of belligerent nations were doing so at their own risk

Atlantic Charter

Press release by FDR and Churchill in 1941 calling for economic cooperation, national self-determination, and guarantees of political stability during the war

Revenue Act

1942 Act that expanded the number of people paying income taxes from 3.9 million to 42.9 million. These taxes on personal incomes and business profits paid half the cost of WW2

Hideki Tojo

General and dictator of Japan during WW2. He gave his approval for the attack at Pearl Harbor and played a major role in Japan’s military decisions until he resigned in 1944
