Competence Models and Performance Models.
What are the two main types of models used to classify user behavior in interaction design?
Define Competence Models.
Models that represent the kinds of behavior expected of a user but provide little help in analyzing that behavior to determine its demands on the user.
Define Performance Models.
Models that provide analytical power by focusing on routine behavior in very limited applications.
The four categories of cognitive models based on their classification scheme
Hierarchical representation of the user’s task and goal structure, linguistic and grammatical models, physical and device-level models.
What does the GOMS model stand for?
Goals, Operators, Methods, and Selection.
What are the four elements of the GOMS description?
Goals, Operators, Methods, and Selection.
What are 'Goals' in the context of the GOMS model?
User's goals describing what the user wants to achieve.
What are 'Operators' in the context of the GOMS model?
Basic actions that the user must perform to use the system.
How does the GOMS model define 'Methods'?
A series of operators used to accomplish the goal.
What does 'Selection' refer to in the GOMS model?
The process of choosing which methods will be used to achieve the goals.
What does the Keystroke Level Model focus on?
It analyzes the performance of user interface tasks based on the number of keystrokes and other low-level actions.
What is Cognitive Complexity Theory?
A theory that helps in understanding the complexity of cognitive tasks and how they can be modeled.
