French and Indian War
(1754-1763) War fought in the colonies between the English and the French for possession of the Ohio Valley land. The English won.
Proclamation of 1763
(1763) A proclamation from the British government which forbade British colonists from settling west of the Appalacian Mountains, and which required any settlers already living west of the mountains to move back east.
Stamp Act
(1765) law that taxed printed goods, including playing cards, documents, newspapers, etc.
Townshend Acts
(1767) A tax that the British Parliament placed on leads, glass, paint and tea
Quartering Act
(1765) (1774) An act passed by the British that allowed British troops to live in the homes of the colonists
Intolerable Acts
(1774) The Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts) were a series of harsh British laws in 1774 designed to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party, essentially closing Boston's port, restricting self-government, allowing British officials to have trials in Britain, and forcing colonists to house soldiers

Loyalist (Tories): A colonist who remained loyal to the British and King George 3.
Usually, wealthy landowners, Anglican clergyman (Priests), had business or political ties to Britain, and or mainly lived in New York and the Southern colonies.
Patriot (Whigs): A colonist who strived for freedom from British Rule
Usually, small farmers or artisans, people with debt, feared tyranny and "No representation," and mainly lived in the New England Colonies
Neutral: A colonist who could not decide which side to choose
What was the significance of the Boston Tea Party?
The Boston Tea Party was important because it showed colonial anger over taxation without representation, increased tensions with Britain, led to the Intolerable Acts, and helped unite colonists in the fight for independence.
