PA Projection.
Center MSP
Rest nose and chin against IR
AML is near perp. to IR
CR perpendicular to exit the lips
Shows mandibular body symmetrical on each side
PA Axial Projection
Rest nose and chin on IR, center MSP
Angle CR 30 degrees cephalad and enters midway between the TMJs
IR centered to CR
Evaluation Criteria:
Include from TMJs and rami to the body
TMJs are inferior to mastoid process
No rotation, symmetric rami
How many possibitlies are there for body?
2 Possibilities
PA and PA Axial
Lateral
Put head in a true lateral and extend neck so the mandibular body is parallel with the IR
Rotate face (MSP) 30 degrees toward IR
Angle CR 25 degrees cephalad
CR passes through mandibular region of interest
(Merrill’s says to oblique the patient to avoid shoulders)
Evaluation Criteria:
body of mandible from symphysis to TMJ with no overlap of opposite side or by c-spine
