Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
also has national standards regarding the completeness, timeliness, and quality of cancer registry data from state registries through the NPCR. The NPCR was developed as a result of the Cancer Registries Amendment Act of 1992. The CDC collects data from the NPCR state registries.
National Cancer Registrars Association
has worked with colleges to develop formal educational programs for cancer registrars. A cancer registrar may become credentialed as an oncology data specialist (ODS) by passing an examination provided by the NCRA’s Council on Certification. Eligibility requirements for the certification examination include a combination of experience and education
