Density
Density tells you how “packed” something is.
Heavy but small
high density
Light but big
low density
distance equation
d = vt ( speed x time)
rearranged distance formula
s = d / t
Required Practical: Density of Irregular Object
Measure mass using balance.
Fill displacement (Eureka) can with water right under the spout.
place a cylinder right under the spout
Place object in water.
the volume of the water that gets displaced will be equal to the volume of the irregular object ( 1 ml = 1 cm cube )
Follow the density equation with the volume and mass to find it
regular object
Measure dimensions and calculate volume using formula.
density of a liquid
Measure empty measuring cylinder mass.
Pour in liquid.
Measure new mass.
Subtract to find mass of liquid.
Read volume from measuring cylinder.
Use density formula.
density formula
ρ= m / v
rearranged density formula (volume)
v = d / m
rearranged density formula (mass)
m = d x v
density of water
1 g = 1 cm cube
