Trail of Tears: Native Americans forced off their lands- Many died while being forced further west

Compromise of 1850- California and New Mexico both free states, but must tighten fugitive slave laws. let people go get their escaped slaves. Let slaveowners claim free people were slaves and claim them as slaves.

Bleeding Kansas- A lot of Violence over slavery issues, involving free-soilers and pro-slavery factions.

1862: Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln declares all slaves free in the confederacy- doesn’t have power over Confederate states.

40 Acres and A Mule promised to freed slaves

1865: Lincoln shot and dies, Confederate states surrender.

U.S.S. Maine Explodes, Spain supposedly at fault

(“Remember the Maine” to Help with Spain”)

Ended with The treaty of Paris giving U.S. control of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines, and established a U.S. protectorate over Cuba

Began with Germany's invasion of Poland (Neutral). U.S. entered after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 by Japanese.

Allied powers: Britain, US, Soviet Union Vs. Axis powers: Germany, Japan, Italy

D-Day: June 6, 1944, Allied invasion of Normandy. Germany had France, We took back France, pushing Germany back.

V.E. Day: Germany Surrendered, Japan still fighting

V.J. Day: Japan's surrender, marking the official end of WWII.

Conflict between North and South Korea. The U.S. supported the South against the communist North, which was backed by China and the Soviet Union. The war ended in an armistice, establishing the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
