Process aimed at reforming Russian agriculture, merge traditional small forms into larger ‘collective’ farms

What was Kolkhozy type of farm?

Collective farms where land was held in common and run by an elected committee, had to meet gvmt quotas

What was Sovkhozy type of farm?

Owned and run by the State. Peasants paid regular wage

What were the benefits of collectivisation?

Look labour and resources and so operate more efficiently, easier for State to procure grain

What else would modernise production?

State provided tractors and fertilisers
