This is a set for SEC Physics Year 9 - Forces (without formulas, just with the rest of the theory)
What is a force?
A force is defined as a ‘push’ or a ‘pull’ of on object on another.
What is mass?
Mass is defined as the amount of matter found in an object.
What is weight?
Weight is defined as the force on an object due to the gravitational pull acting on it.
What is reaction?
The force which acts from the ground to the object at the point of contact between the two.
Driving Force/Engine Force/Thrust
This force drives an object.
Friction
This force acts between any two objects and opposes its motion.
Air Resistance/Drag
This force acts between an object and the air and opposes its motion.
Tension
This force is found in cables, wires ropes and strings when holding an object.
Electrical
This force is due to the attraction/repulsion of electric charges.
Magnetic
This force is due to the attraction/repulsion of magnetic poles.
Lift
This is an upward force which acts on flying objects.
Upthrust
The upward force from a fluid that makes some things float.
Scalar quantity
A quantity which has magnitude only.
