Dual System of Justice

Adalats

Governor-General
The supreme authority appointed by the English East India Company to govern their territories in India, based in Calcutta.

The governing body established in London to oversee and control the company's activities in India.

The division of the company's territories in India into Bengal, Madras, Calcutta and, Bombay, each headed by a Governor.
Lord Cornwallis
The Governor-General who introduced several civil administrative reforms in India, including the Permanent Settlement, judicial reforms, police reforms, administrative reorganization, and codification of laws.
