It merges with the external iliac vein.

They merge with the supreme intercostal vein.
Where does the supreme intercostal vein drain?
Into the brachiocephalic vein.
Why are these veins important?
They return blood from the thoracic and abdominal walls to the heart.
What is the general venous flow pathway here?
Local veins → larger veins → brachiocephalic vein or external iliac vein.
