Why is anaesthesia necessary for the examination of the penis?
Anaesthesia is necessary for the examination of the penis because the nerves controlling the retractors penis muscles pull the penis into the sheath, making it difficult to retract and examine. Anaesthesia allows for relaxation of these muscles and facilitates the prolapse of the penis for examination.

What is the Larson method of anaesthesia for the pudendal nerves?
The Larson method is a reliable technique for anaesthesia of the pudendal nerves, allowing for sufficient anaesthesia of the penis and relaxation of the retractors penis muscles

Describe the method of the Larson method
The external application site is located between the tuber ischiadicum, ligamentum sacrospinotuberale latum, rectum, and musculus coccugeus. The procedure involves cleaning and disinfecting the skin, followed by the local anaesthetic (2% procaine) application. A long needle is then introduced pararectally, targeting the area in front of the foramen ischiadicum minus and above the nervus pudendus internus. Additional anaesthesia may be injected caudally and dorsally to this location. The prolapse of the penis occurs within 20-30 minutes after the application of anaesthetics.

What are some other methods of anaesthesia for examining the penis?

1. epidural anaesthesia
2. anaesthesia of the pudendal nerves at the site of the arcus ischiadicus
3. anaesthesia of the retractors penis muscles
4. anaesthesia of the dorsales penis nerves (Hoppe method)
