Population Proportion
The true proportion of all individuals in a population that fit into a described category.
Point Estimate
A sample proportion (denoted as p hat) that is used as an estimate for a population proportion.
Interval
A range of values that represents what the true population parameter could be.
Sampling Distribution
The distribution of sample proportions (p hats) derived from all possible random samples of a specified size.
Deductive Reasoning
A logical process where one starts with known facts or truths and seeks evidence to support them.
Standard Deviation
A statistical measure that quantifies the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of values.
Alpha Level
The percentage of samples in a sampling distribution that is determined to be significant, often used to denote the cutoff for identifying significant results.
Critical Value (z star)
A special z score that indicates the boundary between normal and significant values in a distribution.
Significant Sample
A sample outcome that lies in the top or bottom percentile of the sampling distribution, indicating it is not normal.
Normal Model
A distribution model that represents the expected sample proportions based on the true population proportion.
