What is probation
When the offender is placed under supervision in the community for up to 3 years (2 for youth)
What is a Conditional Sentence of Imprisonment (CSI/CSO)
a sentence imposed on someone who would be locked up for less than 2 years but is seen as safe to the community

a fine, jail time, probation. Only 2 of the 3 can be applied at one time
What are the requirements for a CSO
the offender was not sentenced with mandatory minimums, the sentence is less than 2 years, they are found to not endanger the community, the sentence would still follow the principles of the CJS
What are some conditions for CSOs
Attend court, remain within jurisdiction, curfew, no contact with certain people, treatments
What options are available if someone breaches a CSO
No action, change the CSO conditions, Suspend the CSO, Terminate the CSO
What happens if the CSO is suspended
the remaining time for the CSO is paused, and the rest is carried out in prison, and then unpaused after you leave prison. The time after prison is how much was left before you went in
What happens if a CSO is terminated
The rest of the sentence is carried out in prison

Any offender who fails to comply with a probation order is guilty of an indictable offence not more than 4 years, or a summary conviction

When someone is released from a prison before their sentence is up (ex. parole)

When the prisoner goes out by themselves
What is the eligibility for UTA and ETA in federal jail
ETA anytime during the sentence, UTA depends on length and type of the sentence (ex. max security inmates are not allowed)
What is a statutory release
A conditional release given to federal prisoners at 2/3 of their sentence with the remaining served under supervision

When the prisoner is under supervision in the community for the rest of their sentence

A release plan is made, a community assessment is made (level of supervision also), and then the parole board determines if parole should be granted, along with any conditions
