After the fall of china, the U.S recognized the influence this country had on many nations surrounding it. (They feared if China fell communism would rise)

McCarthyism
(1950-1954)

In Wisconsin, Senator McCarthy accused U.S citizens of being communist spies. Suspects had to testify before the HUAC Comittee (House Un-American Activities Committee). A refusal to testify by committee would deem you “guilty by association”. This wave ends after Senator McCarthy starts accusing people within the U.S Army.

The Korean War
(1951-1953)

At the end of WWII, Korea is divided into two sectors. North Korea is communist while South Korea is supported by the U.S. After North Korea invades South Korea. America sought help from the United Nations. The U.N. accepts the resolution and sends General MacArthur to help the Koreans, but out of his disobedience Truman demands, he is relieved of his duty (fired). Sadly, this war ends right where the war started.

Dwight D Eisenhower becomes the Republican President who is considered a WWII hero and a reason for the boom in American economy.

The Soviet beats the U.S in launching a satellite to space. This created a very large STEM push in schooling.

Fidel Castro Takes Over Cuba
(1959)

This event makes America very nervous because Cuba is 90 miles from Florida which means the Soviet Union had a location that could fire and hit . This leads to the Eisenhower Administration to end diplomatic relations with Cuba

U-2 Spy Plane Missions.
The U.S was illegally flying spy planes over the USSR and one had gotten shot down. President Eisenhower first denied the mission but then admitted to spying. This causes the USSR to break off diplomatic talks with the United States.
