stage 1
avoiding punishment, “will I get in trouble”
stage 2
personal gain/reward, “what will I gain from this”
stage 3
want approval and relationships, bad/good person
stage 4
rules and maintaining order, rules are needed
stage 5
rights and fairness, sometimes rules can be broken
stage 6
internal moral principles, hard to achieve
