role of scn and how it functions in relation to our circadian rhythm

the scn acts as our body’s biological clock, which controlling our circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is the 24 hour solar cycle of light and dark.  Located in the hypothalamus, the scn receives information from the light to help determine if its day or night. The scn tells the our body to release melatonin which then helps regulate our circadian rhythm.
