Plugger/Aerator

A gray-white volcanic material used for soil aeration.
Peat Moss
Partially decomposed vegetation collected from marshes.
Rhizosphere
The area of soil just below the earth's surface where most plant roots grow.
Asymmetrical Balance
An informal approach to design in landscaping.
Shade-Tolerant Grass
Grass that can grow under dense shade conditions.
Narrowleaf Evergreens
Plants that remain green year-round and adaptable to various conditions.
Root-bound
A condition where the roots of a container-grown tree are constricted.
Preemergence Herbicide
A chemical applied before the crop is up.
Indoleacetic Acid
A naturally occurring rooting hormone in plants.
Focal Point
A principle of design that creates interest in floral arrangements.
Frost-Free Site
A location protected from spring frost, important for blueberries.
Germination
The percentage of seeds that will sprout, as labeled on seed containers.
Thatch
A layer of organic material that can affect water penetration in lawns.
Flower Parts
The primary components of a flower: sepal, petal, stamen, and pistil.
Weed
A plant growing where it is not wanted.
Soil pH
A measurement indicating acidity or alkalinity of the soil.
Seed Starting Date
Crucial for timing to ensure plants are ready for sale or planting.
