Iroquois Confederacy

This was an alliance between 5 tribes in the Northeast. They had hunting/fishing/farming/gathering in the matrimonial system. They played a role in how defending America between French and British supremacy.

Spanish philosopher that went to Americas. Saw that the Native Americans were people just like him (Not racist). Did not like the way most Spaniards were treating the Natives or the ideal that they were barbarians (Supulveda)

Juan Gines de Supulveda

Spanish philosopher opposite of Casas. Did not go to teh new world or interacted with any Natives. Creates a reacist view of Natives like they were savages adn barbarians. Wanted to use them for resourced like gold forced labor.

Middle of North and South Colonies which included, NJ, NY, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Middle Colonies were more tolerant and diverse. They had rich soil created food and a more dense population.

Encomienda System

The Spanish way of forcing Natives to work for them brutally to find gold and other valuables. When more than 90% of the Native population dies they Spanish turn to slavery. This system eventually leads up to Pueblo's Revolt.

Jamestown

The first lasting English settlement. Joint Stock company to New world and they did not have land (usually 2nd or 3rd children not given inheritances), but want land. Many will not work resulting in many deaths. Powhatan kill any remaining after their starvation. The British however keep sending people to Jamestown.

First person to cultivate tobacco in the New World. He also marry's Pocahontas creating an alliance with quiakros. As tobacco production increases the price decreases. After many years the influx of tobacco makes its value essentially worthless.
