What is a receptacle?
A container that is used to put or keep things in. Example: He turned aside and dropped the syringe into a waste receptacle.
What does emphatically mean?
In a forceful manner; with emphasis. Example: Jonas shook his head emphatically.
What is an undertaking?
Any piece of work that is attempted. Example: His responsibilities extended over all the surrounding areas; this would not be an unusual undertaking.
What is solace?
Comfort offered to one who is disappointed or miserable. Example: They faced a situation without solace or wisdom.
What does stealthily mean?
In a manner marked by quiet and caution and secrecy. Example: He moved stealthily and silently, staying in the shadows.
What is understatement?
Something said in a restrained way for ironic contrast. Example: Father described the situation as an understatement.
Who is a fugitive?
Someone who is sought by law officers. Example: The fugitives slept through the first dangerous day.
What does augmented mean?
Added to or made greater in amount or number or strength. Example: The careful division of food was augmented by what he could find.
What does vigilant mean?
Carefully observant or attentive. Example: He was constantly vigilant for the next nearest hiding place.
What does relentless mean?
Never-ceasing. Example: His most relentless fear was that they would starve.
What does tantalizing mean?
Arousing desire or expectation for something unattainable. Example: He managed to recreate tantalizing fragments of meals.
What does obscure mean?
Make unclear or less visible. Example: The rapidly deepening snow obscured the narrow road.
What does imperceptibly mean?
In a manner that is difficult to discern. Example: His front wheel moved forward imperceptibly.
What is lethargy?
Weakness characterized by a lack of vitality or energy. Example: Warming himself had shaken away the lethargy.
What is an incision?
A depression scratched or carved into a surface. Example: The runners sliced through an incision that led to their destination.
