What is fall?

• rapid form of mass movement

• Blocks of rock a an be dislodged by mechanical weathering

• Wave cut notches can cause large falls

• Scars and scree are left

• Talus scree slopes have irregular sized particles

What is topple?

• verticals dip causes it

• Water from rain can cause weakness and eventually toppling

• Wave cut notches and undercutting will cause instability and toppling

What is a translational slide?

• its low angle seaward dip prevents falls

• Material slides down the slope into the sea

• It slides down a glide plane to the impact point where it turns into debris in the sea

• Causes a terraced cliff profile

What is a rotational slide/slump

• occurs along a curved, failed surface

• Water saturated cliffs slide and rotate downslope from days to years

• Prompted by pore water pressure

• Causes a rotational scar

What is flow?

• common in weak rocks such as clay or unconsolidated sand

• They becoming saturated, losing their cohesion and flow downslope

• Heavy rainfall and high tides can contribute to the saturation
