What is the entner-doudoroff pathway?
used to make certain amino acids and for nucleotides
For each molecule of glucose, what is produced?
2 NADPH and 1 ATP
1
–Uses glucose but does not involve glycolysis
2
–Can be used to make some amino acid skeletons
3
–Not seen in most Gram + bacteria
4
–Seen in some Gram - bacteria
•Pseudomonas, Rhizobium, Agrobacterium
T or F: we can metabolize glucose without glycolysis or the pentose phosphate pathway
true
How can we use either pentose phosphate or the entner-doudoroff pathway to our advantage/in the lab?
Bacteria growth on minimal media will try to create amino acids or nucleotides from scratch, so we can observe which pathway they will use depending on the resources available (some can have both).
