Eukaryotic cells
Cells that contain a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.
Photosynthesis
The process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose.
Haplodiplontic
A life cycle that includes both haploid and diploid phases.
Xylem
Tissue in vascular plants that transports water and dissolved nutrients from the roots to the rest of the plant.
Phloem
Tissue in vascular plants that transports sugars and other metabolic products downward from the leaves.
Gymnosperms
Seed plants that produce naked seeds, such as conifers.
Angiosperms
Seed plants that produce seeds enclosed in fruits, also known as flowering plants.
Pollination syndrome
A set of traits that have evolved in flowering plants to attract specific pollinators.
Stomata
Small openings on the surface of leaves that allow for gas exchange; crucial for photosynthesis.
Waxy cuticle
A protective layer on the surface of leaves that helps prevent water loss.
Dispersal
The process by which seeds are spread away from the parent plant to reduce competition and increase colonization.
Fruit function
The role of fruit in protecting seeds and aiding in their dispersal, often through attracting animals.
Habitat transition
The shift of plants from aquatic environments to terrestrial environments, which required various adaptations.
Vacuoles
Membrane-bound sacs within plant cells that store substances and help maintain turgor pressure.
