Peripheral Nervous System
Coordinates with the brain to ensure proper body function.
Somatic Nervous System
Part of the peripheral nervous system responsible for voluntary control of body movements.
Automatic Nervous System
Part of the peripheral nervous system that controls involuntary bodily functions.
Sympathetic Nervous System
Mobilizes the body during stress or danger, rapidly activating organs and glands.
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Balances the sympathetic nervous system and normalizes arousal after stress.
Endocrine System
System of glands producing hormones released into the bloodstream, closely linked to the immune system.
Adrenal Gland
Produces epinephrine/adrenaline, involved in stress response.
Thyroid
Produces thyroxine, which regulates metabolism and energy.
Pituitary Gland
Produces regulatory hormones that control several body functions.
Gonadal Glands
Produce sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen.
Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) Axis
A major neuroendocrine system that controls stress reactions and regulates body processes like digestion and mood.
Corticotropin Hormone (CRH)
Released by the hypothalamus and stimulates the production of cortisol.
Cortisol
A hormone produced by the adrenal glands, involved in stress response.
